Solar backpacks are simply high quality backpacks, normally bound of 1,680 denier nylon, with small solar panels with them. A new technology called thin film solar cells be used to generate electricity from the sun while keeping the weight about 3.5 kilograms for the whole pack. There are currently two main manufacturers of solar backpacks, Voltaic Systems and Eclipse Solar Gear. Both of their backpacks have similar functions, one is a little cheaper, while the other produces more power.
Both Backpacks are designed to charge hand held electronics such as cell phones, PDAs, GPSs, and digital cameras. They are not designed to charge laptop computers. Laptops generally draw more current than can generate the backpacks so eventually the battery would be exhausted. Portable electronic hand does not draw so much power, that the backup battery is still charged.  A 4400 mAh, 3.6-volt lithium-ion battery with a rich assortment of adapters, and added in order to fit just about any personal electronic devices you have.  You can charge the battery back-up three different ways, by the thin-film solar modules with an AC adapter or a DC adapter for cigarette lighters that contain all three. Both bags have a generous 1.850 cubic inches of storage and lots of pockets for storage of MP3 players, cell phones and water bottles. The Voltaic backpack can drink freely even a 3-liter water bladder with hose through the bags wire channels for hands thread.  Solar powered pack packs can be used only to some, but they are especially useful for hikers, campers and hunters.
