The word freelance was coined by Sir Walter Scott, a renowned Scottish historical writer and poet when he wrote his novel Ivanhoe to refer to a medieval mercenary warrior. In 1903, the word was officially recognized by etymologists and made it to the Oxford English Dictionary.
Put simply, a freelancer is a person who is self-employed. Freelancers looking for different projects, which vary in size, scope and variety. In case of freelancing writing, projects may include article writing, writing book, ebook writing, technical reports, editing, proofreading, white papers, direct mail, copywriting, newsletter writing, that happens ... and much more.
Current State of Industry
The industry has literally grown freelance. $ 60 billion of work is now outsourced to specialists in the world whole. "According to the U.S. Department of Labor" 35 million Americans class themselves as independent professionals. "
In the past three years, companies have increased their outsourcing by 22%
A survey predicted that companies using freelance services will more than double 20% to 50%.
Well Being part of an industry of 120 billion U.S. dollars will not be bad!
Why exactly has grown freelance writing?
There are two reasons stand out clearly above the rest.
The explosion of the Internet
The Internet is a relatively new when you compare it with other mature media such as television and radio and is still in its Wild West days. Besides being a great source of information is also a great way of advertising where companies get their business.
Change in business practices:
Back in the good old 60's and 70's you can create a successful business and could expect to reap the profits of a long period of time. Companies could pay the full-time employees in all areas. With hyper competition and large changes in technology, the companies have adopted a different model. They just do the same thing they do best and outsource all activities to other specialists.
So rather than having a full-time writer on the payroll of the company is more efficient to find a writer who specializes in a particular type of writing. If a company needs articles written for your site they would put a bid on a site like Elance.com to a writer web content, get it done and move on. Again they need a good editor who would publish a tender for a copywriter, get the job done and then forward.
For freelancers, this means, literally, a world of opportunities. You can work at home, making an interesting and rewarding work, working with customers around the world. You can be paid directly into your bank account, and earn more than you ever dreamed possible in his day job 9-5.

Ereaders with displays from E Ink will give you the best reading experience long-term, like reading a book. Usually have built in dictionaries. Web browsing and applications experience is poor, however. Readers will like the color LCD displays Nook will give you the best web browsing and applications and gaming experience, experience Reading will be similar to reading a computer monitor. You'll want the full keyboard for a netbook for any serious amount of typing. So the best for reading the long term: ereader E Ink. Best for web browsing and applications: ereader LCD (or tablet). Best for web browsing and applications, and introduction Text: Netbook.

Comments on Oxford English Dictionary Ebook
An Oxford English Dictionary — a real dictionary, not one of the cobbled together offerings for the semi-literate to be found in Woolworth's. Is there such a publication as an ebook? If there is, how does one find it and order it? If there isn't, why isn't there?
Thanks for any help you can offer.
Sincerely,
David Cobain
